In paradise
Orlando di Lasso's Lost Requiem
In 1575, Orlando di Lasso, the ingenious Munich court composer, created an unrivaled setting of the Requiem texts for four a cappella voices. This version for four mixed voices was considered the original version until recently. In 2014, a previously unknown copy of the work was discovered in the Augsburg State Library, which is set a fifth lower and contains a setting of the Dies Irae sequence that had previously been lost. The dating of the manuscript suggests that it is most likely the original version of the work.
The unusually low register makes the work a profound sound experience that finds its climax in extensive meditation. On this evening, the individual parts of the Requiem are accompanied by works by Scandinavian composers that reflect the liturgical text.

ETA Hoffman
Overture and excerpts from the opera "Undine"
Miserere for soloists, choir and orchestra
Although Hoffmann was best known as a writer and is still strongly associated with his literary texts, music played an important role in his life. Hoffmann saw himself primarily as a composer.
He considered music to be the only true art, but his work is not very extensive and it is not performed. Together with the Miserere in B flat minor - an idiosyncratic and very expressive work for soloists, choir and orchestra - Cantus Zürich performs excerpts from Undine, its most important opera.

Works by Britten, Rütti, Schürch, Schumann, Diethelm and others
The program focuses on compositions from Switzerland. Carl Rütti and Cyrill Schürch are among the most important living composers for choirs in Switzerland. They compose commissioned works for well-known ensembles and are also held in high esteem abroad. Caspar Diethelm's vocal works, on the other hand, are practically never performed. However, it is worth paying tribute to this composer and discovering his musical language.
